Biggest Selling Movie of All Time

Whenever I hear on the news that a certain movie had a great opening weekend and set a revenue record, I always knew the info wasn’t quite right.  The price of tickets is higher than its ever been, so what kind of record are we talking about?  It it costs $12 for someone to see a movie now, and $4 back in the 80′s, then the overall boxoffice take isn’t telling us much.

I always thought that reporting on the total number of tickets sold would make more sense.  But Len Penzo decided to take inflation into account.  He determined the top grossing movies of all time, but based on inflation adjusted dollars.  Check out the article here.

Just saw “Where the Wild Thing…

Just saw “Where the Wild Things Are” with 40 of my daughters closest friends! It was Kelly’s 13th birthday party.

Here is a really great video that was featured as part of the Best of YouTube podcast.  Its amazing what a smile and a kind word can do.  Watch it here.

The Counterfeiters

Carmella and I saw a really good movie about the Holocaust last night.  The Counterfeiters covers the activities of a special counterfeiting unit set up at a Concentration Camp.  Not sure how Carmella got this into our Netflix queue, but I’m very glad she did!  Btw, this edition has English subtitles.

The Visitor

Carmella, Kelly and I just saw a great movie, courtesy of Netflix. The Visitor stars Richard Jenkins, Haaz Sleiman and Danai Gurira. Walter (Richard Jenkins) plays an unsatisfied college Professor, who comes to his NY apartment after a long time in Connecticut to find Tarek (Haaz) and Zainab (Danai) squatting. Walter becomes involved in their lives when suddenly Tarek is arrested and sent to a detention center. The movie shows the difficulties faced by illegal immigrants and their friends and family.

The Visitor premiered at the 2008 Sundance festival. Catch it if you can!
