Whenever I hear on the news that a certain movie had a great opening weekend and set a revenue record, I always knew the info wasn’t quite right. The price of tickets is higher than its ever been, so what kind of record are we talking about? It it costs $12 for someone to see a movie now, and $4 back in the 80’s, then the overall boxoffice take isn’t telling us much.
I always thought that reporting on the total number of tickets sold would make more sense. But Len Penzo decided to take inflation into account. He determined the top grossing movies of all time, but based on inflation adjusted dollars. Check out the article here.
