Kelle had submitted her poem called Breath to a poetry contest a while back, but she put the contest out of her mind. One day her Geometry teacher mentioned that she was a winner! But he didn’t have the details. We did some searching around and found an article in the Millburn Patch with some of the information.
Turns out that the The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is a big deal! Since 1923, teens like Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, and Myla Goldberg earned their first accolades from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. And now our Kelle has won a Silver Key for her poem. We have always known that Kelle is a talented poet, especially given her great book Adrift. Now she has National recognition!
You can find the listing of Silver Key winners for the Northeast Region here.
Congratulations Kelle!
